Brown Snake

The Australian brown snake refers to several species in the genus Pseudonaja, which are among the most venomous snakes in the world. These snakes are typically brown in color, though their specific coloration and pattern can vary greatly.

The species within this group include the Eastern brown snake (Pseudonaja textilis), Western brown snake (Pseudonaja nuchalis), and others. These snakes are native to Australia and Papua New Guinea, and their habitats range from arid regions to coastal areas and inner cities.

Australian brown snakes are known for their potent venom, which contains toxins that can cause paralysis, blood clotting disruption, and heart damage. Despite their venomous nature, these snakes are generally shy and prefer to retreat if given the chance. However, they can become aggressive when cornered and pose a significant threat to humans.

They primarily feed on small mammals, birds, and reptiles, and their reproduction is oviparous, which means they lay eggs.

Gecko

Australia is home to a diverse range of gecko species spread across different genera. These small to medium-sized nocturnal reptiles are found in a variety of habitats, from the arid deserts to rainforests and even suburban areas. Some of the most well-known types of Australian geckos include the Barking Gecko (Underwoodisaurus milii), the Leaf-tailed Gecko (Saltuarius spp.), and the Marbled Gecko (Christinus marmoratus), among many others.

Australian geckos display a wide range of colors and patterns, and some have fascinating adaptations such as the ability to change color or camouflage with their surroundings. The Leaf-tailed Gecko, for example, has an uncanny ability to blend in with tree bark due to its leaf-like tail and body shape.

Many gecko species in Australia, like in the rest of the world, have specialized toe pads that enable them to climb smooth and vertical surfaces, and even cross indoor ceilings with ease.

Geckos are generally insectivorous, feeding on a diet of insects and other small invertebrates. Some larger species may also consume small reptiles. They are oviparous, laying eggs that they often hide in secure, humid environments.

Like other reptiles, geckos are cold-blooded and regulate their body temperature through their environment. During the day, they typically hide away in cool, moist hideaways, emerging at night when temperatures are more favourable.
